President's Message
Here we are almost half way through the year. Thanksgiving has come and gone and we are all tired of those turkey leftovers. Christmas is a mere 25 days away; I don’t even have a list much less check it twice for naughty and nice. New years is just around the corner and what about all those things that we were going to get done for the Lions; well you still have 7 months to get that new prospect to a meeting and ask them to be a Lion. Congratulations and a Big Lion thank you the Ron Mustaine. Through his hard work and perseverance the club was able to raise approximately 2200 dollars. That is help to fund eyeglasses, hearing aids, kidsight expenses, LCIF, diabetes education, Harrison School, Leader dog, youth exchange camp and others. Congratulations to Dave Higdon and Ron Mustaine for receiving the District Governor’s award at the November 10 meeting. Peace Poster Our winner was a young man by the name of Alex Paoli at Franklin Elementary School. Interesting enough his grandfather is a Lion in Wisconsin. I did have the opportunity to visit the class to submitted entries. Ms. Paulette Reed is the instructor and the class and instructor were very enthistic and looking forward to next year’s contest. A special thanks to Leslie Panos who is the school district coordinator for the art instructors. Without her guidance this project would not have been possible. I certainly hope to see this project grow with more elementary school participating. Hopefully everyone will have the opportunity to meet Alex and his parents at the Awards Banquet. Thank you to District Governor Bob Willits for his remarks and comments regarding Lions on the District and multiple district level. Always interesting to hear what other Lions clubs are doing to raise funds and what charity programs they are running for their communities.
Membership We are down two members since July 1. Resolve to bring a prospect to a meeting and visit with them about Lions membership. On January 6 & 7, Mid-Winter Leadership Conference will be at the Airport Holiday Inn in Des Moines. Check your Iowa Lion for registration and list of events. Iowa Lion is on the state web site unless you receive a hard copy in the mail. If you have never been to a state conference, talk to someone who has and they can tell you about the events and seminars.
Yours in Lionism, Terry
